CRITICAL TEXT ANALYSIS 

Critical Reading is a process of analyzing, interpreting, and sometimes evaluating. 

Steps in critical reading : 

1.    Before reading: scan the piece to get an idea. 

2.    While reading: keep a running dialogue with the author. 

3.    After reading: look over the annotations to get an overall idea of the text. 

    4.    Responding to the text: analyze the author’s argument and method to develop your own ideas into an essay of your own. 

Two mode of reading : 

1.    Reading with the author: understanding the author perspective (make sure truly understand the author’s view & ideas and accept the author’s ideas temporarily even if you disagree.

2.   Reading the author critically: engaging the author in a dialogue (look through your own lens now, question and challenging the author and now you can form own ideas and theories.
